On 4 March 2026, CMN – Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie successfully launched the first-of-class BR71 MkII corvette, “NRA EKUIKUI II,” at its shipyard in Cherbourg, France, marking a significant milestone in a major naval programme for the Angolan Navy.

The vessel forms part of a €1 billion programme that includes the delivery of three 71-metre corvettes designed to strengthen Angola’s maritime defence and national security capabilities.

The programme is delivered in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) framework. As part of this partnership, one of the three vessels will be constructed at ADSB’s shipyard in Abu Dhabi, supporting industrial cooperation and knowledge transfer.

Designed for demanding missions, the BR71 MkII will protect vital sea lanes and contribute to safeguarding Angola’s maritime domain.
