Renewable Energy

Powering the future with zero emission tidal technology

HydroQuest, a subsidiary of CMN NAVAL, stands at the forefront of Tidal Stream Energy innovation. As a world leader in harnessing ocean currents to produce clean, predictable, and renewable electricity, HydroQuest combines industrial expertise with environmental responsibility. Its technology contributes to the global transition toward sustainable energy while promoting energy independence through marine-based solutions.

Turning Tides into Power

Tidal stream energy offers one of the most reliable and predictable renewable resources on Earth. Unlike wind or solar, tides follow natural lunar cycles, ensuring constant and forecastable energy generation. Harnessing this potential positions HydroQuest as a key player in the energy transition toward stable, zero-emission power.

  • 100% renewable and emission-free energy
  • Predictable generation based on tidal patterns
  • Operates without visual or noise pollution
  • Scalable for coastal and island nations

Proven Technology & Expertise

HydroQuest designs, develops, and operates tidal turbines that convert ocean currents into reliable renewable energy. Built by Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN), these turbines embody the strength of the Group’s integrated industrial ecosystem.

This synergy reflects CMN NAVAL’s unique position at the crossroads of naval engineering and sustainable energy technology.

Key Higlights:

  • FloWatt, a full-scale pilot tidal turbine farm, will generate 17 MW of electricity from six HydroQuest turbines and is under development for deployment at Raz Blanchard, Normandy, France.
  • HydroQuest’s tidal turbines are fully engineering and built at CMN in Cherbourg, reinforcing CMN NAVAL’s European industrial footprint.
  • Funded and supported through European and French innovation programmes, including the EU innovation Fund and France 2030.
  • Technology built on proven 1 MW demonstrator at the Paimpol- Bréhat test site in Brittany, France, which demonstrated operational reliability.

Sustainability And Innovation

HydroQuest’s commitment extends beyond energy generation. It develops solutions that protect marine ecosystems and integrate with local economies.

  • Minimal seabed footprint and low impact on marine life
  • Designed for full recyclability and long service life
  • Supports local supply-chains and maritime industries
  • Aligned with the European Union’s green transition goals

Through HydroQuest, CMN NAVAL champions a future where oceans become a source of clean, limitless energy. HydroQuest’s vision is to expand tidal power deployment across global coastlines, advancing the frontier of renewable innovation while protecting the planet’s most powerful natural resource.
